“Building Communities from the Roots Up”

CTree Projects - Spring 2014

Hardy County Childcare Center

4/22/2014

This WV Project CommuniTree project at Hardy County Childcare Center took place on Earth Day, April 22, 2014.  The volunteers flagged the site on April 4, 2014 in cooperation with CTree Liaison Carla Hardy from the West Virginia Conservation Agnecy.  We had a wonderful day of sunshine and plenty of local volunteers including Hardy County Childcare Center staff (8), Division of Highways employees (9), children (75) and West Virginia Conservation Agency staff (3).  The trees were planted throughout the new playground with a few along the parking lot area as well.  Thanks to all of the hard work of the volunteers, the planting went very quickly. The Division of Highways employees augured the holes and also took the time to perform all the staking for us.  Each class was assigned a tree and assisted in planting and were told all about "their" tree.

A note from the Project Leader, Angie Vetter:

“Our day was wonderful.  Our kids absolutely loved meeting the DOH staff and they let the children sit in their trucks and on the skid steer- this was probably the highlight for the little boys! Our staff and the kids loved learning and being quizzed on their trees and how to take care of them.  They are going to measure them each season to monitor their growth.”
