WV Project CommuniTree

“Building Communities from the Roots Up”

CTree Projects - Fall 2012

Izaak Walton League

On November, 3rd, 10 volunteers came together along a section of the Route 9 Bike Path to plant trees. These volunteers consisted of members of the US Coast Guard, Leetown Chapter of the Izaak Walton League (IWL) members, and a high school student putting in her volunteer hours for high school. It was a bit cold that day and it had just rained a few days before. Luckily the ground was not soaking wet and the wind was not blowing so the cold was tolerable.

The group planted 12 native shade trees in a little under 3 hours and had a great time doing it. These trees, once mature, will provide critical shade for community members enjoying a walk or run on the Route 9 Bike Path.

A note from the project leader, Leetown IWL Conservation Committee Chair Darrell Propst:

“We loved the communion of people that just want to do good things for the environment. All the people involved will all be able to show their families for years to come the progress of what just a few people can do to help our environment.”

Good job!
